Tesla clocked in a revenue of 24.6 billion dollars in the year 2019 with over 2.3 million total car sale globally as reported by Statista.

What is a Battery electric vehicle?

Battery electric vehicle (BEV) are a class of EVs that uses only an Energy Storage System (ESS) such as a battery pack to power the electric car. There are no fuel oils involved, hence, can achieve true zero emission goals.

Why Battery electric car is dominating HEVs, FCEVs and others?

Battery electric vehicles are the pick of electric locomotion innovation, they are the future we have been working towards, to achieve the dream of owning a car that is environment friendly (zero emissions), less noisy and delivers Ludicrous power (Tesla reference).

Countries around the world are promoting the use of electric car and offers tax reliefs and other benefits to the owners. Some countries like Norway and India have committed to adopting full electrification soon.

Parts of a BEV

The main parts of a battery electric vehicle are as below[1] :

# Battery Pack

The power store of electric car. They are collection of hundreds of small cell batteries, usually of the (AA) type packed together; capacity may range from 100kwh to 500kwh.

# Inverter -

This converts the DC power from the battery into AC power, and fed to the motors.

# Controller -

This is the brain of the system it tells how much power is to to deliver to each motor(s).

# Electric Motor -

They are usually of the permanent magnet type and rarely of induction type (like the early Tesla motors).

Connected with either a single speed or two speed automatic gearbox and can handle few seconds of peak current to deliver you that sweet sweet (0-60) mph under 4 secs.

# Charging system for the battery

# Re-gen system -

Regenerative braking technology has become an industry standard in the world of electric vehicles.

How do BEVs work?

#1. You press down on the accelerator pedal.

#2. This signals the controller, telling it how much power is to transfer to the motor

#3. The DC power from the battery gets converted into AC by an DC-AC inverter

#4. This again passes a AC-AC inverter and then delivered to the electric motors

#5. Electric motors convert electrical to mechanical energy and produce translation motion.

Problems with BEV

# Range -

They have a shorter range. The range varies according to a lot of controllable (battery size, power draw, charging tech) and uncontrollable (temperature, humidity, load) factors and is usually anywhere from 100 to 500 miles.

# Charging -

Batteries, at least as of now, require charging time anywhere from 50mins - 10hr depending on capacity, supply voltage and charging technology they are a long way from the convince of a quick minute refill of gas.

What is Innovation, Importance and How to do it

image source : unsplash Did you know? The iconic funnel top design of street lamps we are all so familiar with, is an innovation by Benjamin Franklin. Introduced in 1757, it was an improvement over the defective and difficult to maintain globe design that was then standard in London. Franklin addressed those problems and his solution was accepted with open arms.   image source : unsplash What is Innovation? Innovation is defined as the process of bring new invention i.e. ideas, approaches and technologies to customers in the form of products and services. The aim of innovation is to create viable solutions for a problem that is faced by people in an industry or the public. Do not confuse it with iteration, which is the process of developing incremental improvement in existing solutions. Henry Chesbrough the ideologist behind Open Innovation defines innovation as “Commercialization of inventions” . [Quote] Why is innovation important? Innovation is the tool that protects busines...

Tesla India : What we know, How it affects the Indian EV market and Tata partnership rumor

Tesla Roadster 2 predicted to hit the streets in 2022   Tesla announced in January 2021 that will come to India, they have reportedly booked an office in Bangalore. A miss-leading tweet, of Tesla and Tata partnering to develop and launch electric cars blew-up the internet.   Tesla sure has a busy start to the new year, but is it ready to face the India crowd? Let’s discuss it.   What do we know about Tesla India? Elon Musk the CEO and Founder of Tesla Inc. confirmed its launch in India thought twitter.   As promised - Elon Musk — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 13, 2021 Tesla has been rapidly spreading its wings in the global car market. We saw a surge of almost +500% in Tesla share prices between March 2020 and January 2021; propelling Elon Musk to surpass Jeff Bezos as the richest man alive.   India is the second most populated country in the world and its not in Musk’s nature to miss out on such an opportunity.   How Tesla affects the EV market in India...
